Program Overview
AVI's English as a Second Language program is a 1,200-hour, six-level curriculum aligned with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). Beginning at Level A1 Beginner and progressing through Level A6 College Proficiency, each level consists of four 50-hour courses covering grammar, speaking, listening, reading, and writing.
All instruction uses the acclaimed New English File Series by Oxford University Press, supplemented by AVI's own academic materials. Students who complete the full program are prepared for college-level coursework, professional employment, and standardized English proficiency exams.
The program is available in-class at our Vienna, VA campus and fully online via Zoom with synchronous live sessions. An ESL Proficiency Test is administered upon enrollment to place each student at the appropriate level.

Oxford University Press — globally recognized language curriculum used by millions of learners worldwide.
This program is not eligible for Title IV federal financial aid, Pell Grants, or GI Bill benefits. Private payment, employer sponsorship, and payment plans are available.

Curriculum
Each level is 200 hours comprising four 50-hour courses. Students advance level by level, building skills systematically from beginner foundations to college-level proficiency.
